CPU Hogging?

I recently had to change hosts because my site was incurring CPU throttling as our traffic grew (currently 15-20,00 hits/day).

I upgraded from shared hosting to VPS in the hope I would have better performance. The new VPS host said I was hogging the CPU because there was 100 instances of FCG running on my site. (I only have FCG in one location, there were just 100 people accessing it simultaneously).

I had to deactivate FCG to bring the CPU drain down.

It's a real drag because the Featured Content Gallery was an essential part of our current design. It sits on our homepage - (or should I say, it used to).

Has anyone run FCG with this sort of traffic without CPU issues?

Is there a less demanding slideshow solution available?
