Download, Install, Upgrade & Setup Instructions

PostBy Kris Themstrup on Tue Jan 20, 2009 2:34 pm

For complete instructions on downloading, installing, upgrading and setting up the Featured Content Gallery plugin, you have two options:

Upgrade Instructions: For most of you, you'll be downloading the new plugin and upgrading to the new version. It's important to note that the new plugin has exactly the same files and calls as the original plugin, so your upgrade should go smoothly. You can simply replace the files through ftp, or install the plugin like any other. The only changes you will have to make is putting the post or page IDs you want to use in the options page (no longer does the plugin reference the "Featured" category"). The options page includes addition information on the new advanced options of the plugin.

If you have any issues or questions relating to the download, install, upgrade or setup of the plugin, please post them here.

No problem, glad to help. I remember when I was a newbie with WP, just a few months ago.

What you have to do is edit your actual theme files, through the Appearance > Edit option. So go into WP, click Appearance, then Edit. Your CSS code will show in front of you. On the right, there will be a list of templates for your theme. These will say things like home, sidebar, header, footer, main index page, etc etc.

Depending on where you want the FCG to display, you must edit that file. The most common is the home page. Go into your home page code, then look for a good place to paste the code.
Code: Select all
<?php include (ABSPATH . '/wp-content/plugins/featured-content-gallery/gallery.php'); ?>

A good place is after the content div (div id="content") and after the title. It really depends on your theme. Not knowing what that is, it's hard for me to say. If you drop me a link, I'd be happy to look further into it.

Hope this helps!

Currently, you are not using at least 2 featured items. Take a look at the install & setup instructions and they will guide you through the setup of the plugin.

Revolution Church theme was free at one time, but is not any longer. To get theme support, you must be a paying member at Revolution Two. We cannot help with forum advice when it comes to theme customization, but the install and setup instructions should detail the plugin setup pretty thoroughly.

Hi there,

I just purchase the Lifestyle Theme from Revolution2; as you know - this theme utilizes your plugin - which I think is great (if I can get it to work).

My "staging" site is: http://scrapbookingdirections.com/2009/

Until I get everything to work.

The problem is: I can not get your product to work. I have followed all instructions on the Step by Step installation page you provide here. And I do not have any other gallery plugins.

I don't even get an error message - all I see is the blank - black window with the loading bar - but nothing shows up.

I have set the category to pull from - and I have loaded images (as articleimg) that match the image size suggested by the Lifestyle theme and still no luck.

Any help you might be able to give would be great.

You use category option, right?
Category should not have any spaces for use it in FCG to work properly.

1. Check settings to exclude fcg-YOU conflict
2. Try to turn off all your plugins at once to exclude fcg-other plugin conflict
3. Try default theme to exclude fcg-theme conflict

Yes, I am using the category option - but my category titles do have spaces. Can I use the category slug which does NOT have spaces?
