FCG as key navigation element on my site

I've used the Featured Content Gallery a bit differently as one of the main ways to navigate around my website:

http://www.chinatravelsavvy.com

So it's not just on the home page, but also on the index pages for all the city guides and the other sections. For example, the Shanghai city guide:

http://www.chinatravelsavvy.com/destinations/shanghai/

Or the China Visa guide:

http://www.chinatravelsavvy.com/visa/

I'd be curious to know how well people think this works. I'm also considering increasing the size of the gallery to the full width of the page.
