After a WP 3.2.1 update FCG hangs, not loading any pix. Custom fields are enabled and I have tried to disable other plugins to check for conflicts but no luck. Any suggestions?

if you have sexy bookmarks
try to turn off sexy bookmarks or in sexy bookmarks settings check "Use new version?" as "No".
if not, check others plugins, try to turn them off one by one

What do you mean when you say turn off all the plugins, is it deactivating the plugins?
yes
but I think in your case it is not the plugin conflict issue, there is no articleimg custom fields specified in for posts in gallery
