How to configure the plugin options

PostBy Kris Themstrup on Tue Jan 20, 2009 2:58 pm

With the release of version 3.0 of the Featured Content Gallery plugin, there are some new options and settings.

The best resource for learning about the new options is the install & setup page of FeaturedContentGallery.com. However, for information purposes, here's some notes to make the process a little easier:

Crop the images you use to the same size of the gallery to make them display better.
The default text overlay height is 50px, enough for a title and about two lines of text.
To find the post or page IDs in your blog, edit or hover the page and look at the url. The ID is the number at the end.
Make sure when entering your post or page IDs, you separate each with a comma, but don’t use spaces.
You must have at least two (2) featured items for the gallery to work.
If you do not use the advanced settings, all you need to do to add a page or post to the gallery is upload an image and specify the articleimg custom field on your post or page. Simply add in the ID to the FCG options page and you’re done.
Advanced options are easy to implement. For custom thumbnail images in the upper carousel, simply add the thumbnailimg custom field to your post or page, and check the box next to that option. Default thumbnail size is 100px x 75px. Use these same dimensions if using custom thumbnails.
For custom text, add the featuredtext custom field and enter in your text as the value (HTML is allowed). Check the box next to that option to use your custom text with the page or post title.
When it comes to colors, there are three options. Border color is the color around the thumbnail images. Background color is the gallery color, that has a slight transparancy to it. Text color is self-explanatory. When entering in colors, either call the color by name (red, blue, green, etc.) or use the #hex (#ff0000).

If you have additional questions or issues with the options or setup of the FCG plugin, please post them here. Thanks!

Thanks for the great plugin first of all. Secondly how do I change the overlay color from black to another color. Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere - Lynne

Lynne-

No problem. You can change the color of the overlay by going to the plugin options page, scroll all the way to the bottom, and you should get three different fields. One will be for border color (the border around the thumbnail images in the carousel), one will be the overlay or gallery color (this is the one you want to change), and one will be for text color, which changes the color of the text.

You can enter in either a hex# (e.g. #000000 for black, #ffffff for white, #ff0000 for red, etc) or you can just say "black" "blue" "red" or any other color name.

Save the options page at the bottom after making your change, then go check out your gallery.

Hope this helps!

1. Check settings to exclude fcg-YOU conflict
2. Try to turn off all your plugins at once to exclude fcg-other plugin conflict
3. Try default theme to exclude fcg-theme conflict

I am having problems with the plugin. I have:

- watched the video
- deleted the plugin and reinstalled it

My url is www.JonathanMickles.com. I have 3 posts each with at least one category as random. when I reload the page, I can see the images try to load. However, the gallery is not displayed. I am also using the Revolutions Church theme from Brian. When I look at the home.php page, the correct version of the code is included.

I also checked the urls of the images:

http://www.jonathanmickles.com/wp-conte ... Leaves.jpg
http://www.jonathanmickles.com/wp-conte ... Garden.jpg
http://www.jonathanmickles.com/wp-conte ... Garden.jpg

I have also added the "articleimg" field on each posting with the limage links above. Please feel free to contact me and I can provide you screenshots of the configuration page.

Thanks for all of your help.
