Images not loading when FCG placed in widget areas

I'm in the early stages of developing a new web site, trying to configure the plugins that will be used, and have run accross a problem with FCG - it doesn't load images if I try to use it either in a widget, or call it directly from withing the pages (in both cases having enabled the use of PHP calls through plugins - Samsarin PHP widget, or exec-PHP). The only way everything loads correctly is if I insert the <?php include (ABSPATH . '/wp-content/plugins/featured-content-gallery/gallery.php'); ?> line directly into index.php, but then it shows only if my WP is configured to show recent posts instead of a particular page as the landing page (and I'd prefer to have it displayed on a particular page that would be defined as the landing page).

Do you have a workable solution for me? I'd really prefer if it was one that would enable FCG to work within widgets, but a solution that would allow me to insert it directly into a particular page would also be fine.
