I recently installed FCG 3.2.0 for an upcoming gaming group site. But, considering as a web designer that hasn't been regularly following or writing script, was curious how one would go about changing the plugin's carousel so the thumbnails are oriented vertical, always displayed without a show/hide function, and track the progression of the main feature via a marker.
For example, the feature content sliders of http://www.gamespot.com and to a lesser extent http://www.ign.com are similar to my design aims.
Multiple changes to FCG Carousel

Re: Multiple changes to FCG Carousel
This would require some major coding changes and knowledge of the SmoothGallery script. I wouldn't recommend trying to do this with FCG, as the work would probably be more effort than just going out and finding a different plugin. I never want to steer people away from the FCG, but if you're looking for that functionality, FCG probably isn't your best choice.
I saw something similar to what you're looking for a while back. I'll look around and get back to you if I can remember it. In the meantime, I would recommend checking the repository.

Re: Multiple changes to FCG Carousel
Yeah, that came to my mind after looking over the FCG code, and it might still be possible with some serious time involvement.
As for the alternatives, one is developing my own WP plugin based on Slideshow2, which is based on Mootools 1.2 and is very-friendly to customization.
In addition, there is another slider plugin called SuperSlider-Show, and is based on Slidershow 2, but seems entirely focused around galleries inside of posts/pages. I will have to look at it more thoroughly over the coming days to see if it can be used for my needs or not.
