newbie with problems in gallery settings

Hi,
I know very little about software and programming, but have to build a blog for uni.
I've added fcg, and think I've done what I need to so far..
I've hit a major problem, been going round in circles for hours. The video/text tutorials all talk about using certain text in the custom fields, but if I add a post, or a page, this section does not appear at all, so I cannot tick those boxes.
Is this a dowload error, have I missed something, and how does it get fixed?
Stuff like this really makes my head hurt, so simple steps please!

your theme has jquery in it, it makes conflict with fcg

Being new to this...
1 will installing a different theme lose all the settings on the current one?
2 what is jquery? I am using TWORRDER 1.4.3
3 which other url do you need?

2.jquery is javascript framework, fcg has another called mootools, they conflict with each other
