Plans for the future

PostBy Kris Themstrup on Tue Jan 20, 2009 3:01 pm

Although we've made some significant changes to the Featured Content Gallery plugin, we're always looking to make it better. Here's a list of some of the functionality we have planned for the future:

Add options to determine display and transition time length - DONE

Add option to specify transition style and color - 1/2 DONE
Simplify featured content page or post selection in options page - DONE
Add functionality to dynamically change “Featured Content” text in carousel - DONE
Resolve conflict with Lightbox/Slimbox WP plugins - WORKING
Add ability to have multiple galleries and add them to individual pages or posts within WP - WORKING

If you have any ideas on how to improve the plugin, please post them here. Thanks!

Kris,

Congratulations for taking this over for Jason/RevolutionTwo.com.

This plugin has a lot of potential and we are excited about where your team is going to take it!

I have one enhancement request...

I have clients that want an easy to use Image Carousel that does not link to a Post or Page, just a selection of images. If you can add as an additional option to Page & Post links, then it will take it to another level & bring additional users.

A suggestion for this is to allow an option that points to an image directory where users can place their select images. These could be displayed randomly or maybe if they were named with numbers, could be displayed in sequence.

Craig-

Thanks for the kind words! We're excited to be a part of the WP and Revolution community.

I definitely hear where you're coming from with the basic image gallery, I think it would be a great benefit to users who just want that aspect of the plugin.

I'll put this on our list for development - maybe something in the options page or an entirely different version of the plugin.

Thanks for your input!

Congratulations on your great work and especially for your responsiveness to user concerns and prompt replies to questions.

I am looking forward to the new features you are working on which will allow more choice in what is presented in the way of featured content, especially the ability to either chose individual pages or posts or select categories.

I will have to wait for the capacity to select categories before using version 3.0 on some of my blogs, but expect to use it on some blogs where it is important to be able to select individual posts. For some of my blogs I will have to keep using version 2.1 until the latest version offers the ability to select categories.

Thanks for the great work.

Alan-

You do know that v3.0.1 has the ability to feature categories (the original way) or post/page ids (the new way), correct? We've updated :)

Thanks for the support! You can download v3.0.1 here.

First, I LOVE 3.0.1. I've managed to resolve a couple of scripting conflicts (that seem to be tied to Apache settings), and the Gallery is just purring away in a couple sites. I do have one request ...

... to restore an old feature. Way back when, you could include an image in the gallery without having that image connected to a particular post. In this way you could have images displayed for the sake of having images ... or you could have multiple images pointing at one post.
The closest I can come to this now is to create a category that is image-only, but that creates some other problems.

Thanks for the great work, Kris.

A couple of months ago when Jason and I were talking about the FCG I had asked about being able to use multiple galleries. He indicated it was coming and I am glad to see it on your to-do list.

If you have a look at my site you will see I have various section, plus a Business Directory. If there could be an FCG specific to a section, such as a page ID, that would be incredible. I can then sell dedicated ad spots to clients specific to that section. Even better if the image could include a link to a client site.

Although I know zippo about php I do see other routines that use conditional statements, ie, if this, then that. No doubt it is more complicated than this with the FCG, but if something like :if page_ID="XX" then FCG_ID="XX", with different galleries called. Sorry if that's a dumb idea.

Good luck!

Cheers!

Kris and iePlexus team,

Thank you guys so much for this plugin and your continued efforts to improve its functionality. Having just installed it on a new site, I was just thinking about the exact improvements I just read on your list and also the ability to have a simple img gallery for clients who are not soo web savvy.

Thanks again.

The site will continue to be tweaked, but here is the first site I've placed this plugin on so far.
