The problem I've run into is sometimes the thumbnail generated for a post is bad (poor cropping, scaling, etc.), so I'd like to replace it. But thumbs for other images generate just fine. So I'm forced to either live with crappy thumbs, or manually generate ALL of them. Neither is a good answer.
Does this really have to be an "either, or" situation? How about this: if a post contains the <thumbnailimg> custom field, then use the image it points to. If it doesn't, auto-generate a thumbnail. No need for a user-configured setting -- either grab the custom thumb, or do what you'd normally do.
Otherwise, FCG is great.
