Trouble getting images to load

pages with galleries: home, retreats

I installed/activated plugin. I could not get the gallery to render in my index.php file. I then downloaded exec-php and put php into my pages (home, retreats) directly. I have 2 images with articleimg field attached on each page. Didn't work. Watched the video tutorial a few times and read through the forum. Then tried updating php to

<?php global $post; include (ABSPATH . '/wp-content/plugins/featured-content-gallery/gallery.php'); ?>

per a suggestion on another persons post, but no go with that either.

Originally when I tried inserting it into my index.php file I moved it around a bit but it never showed. However when I placed the php in my header.php file the gallery with loading bar did show up.

I am stuck as to what to do, and i don't want to use another plugin, this one seems like the best.
