General WordPress and FCG plugin discussion

White Box

PostBy cvillaco on Mon Jul 19, 2010 11:12 pm

I need some assistance I think.

I've scoured the forum pretty well I think.
But I still have this white box.

I just installed WordPress 3.0 the other day on my xampp localhost and am using the default theme. I havnt activated any plugins except FCC.

I have direct links to the image I was to use. the fields are filled in as such:
articleimg
http://localhost/brackenbrae/wp-content ... onner1.jpg

I don't have an .js folder or files, I believe this is because the default theme doesn't include any javascript.

I'm selecting two pages:
92,89

I've inserted
<?php include (ABSPATH . '/wp-content/plugins/featured-content-gallery/gallery.php'); ?>
into a page with a big enough div for the gallery..

I know the plugin is active and responding because i can change the hex values of the border. The carousel, text and images do not appear. All I have is the red border I set.
Any advice please?

Wow, I found my solution!

Now I have to say, this has been confusing.. First of all, neither featured content gallery main page, nor the plugin page in WordPress state obviously that FCG is wp 3.0 compatible or not.. though they continually reference it's 2.7.1 compatibility which caused me to continually to question my troubleshooting.

I have no live server to test with, only my localhost. I queried most of the forum with no luck. I figured I was doing something wrong, or the plugin isn't really compatible... Sorry for doubting the forum. After seeing no response on another local host thread I queried "xampp wordpress". The problem is that FCC is written with short tags that my local host "xampp" by default handles with a value of off.

I fixed the problem by setting the phpshort_open_tag value to "on" in the php.ini file.

c:/xampp/php/php.ini is the file path on my computer if you have the same problem.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Your are the absolute Champ!

After nonstop 15 hours, not eaten, bad slept and questioning if my brain is still intact, you made my day!

After reading most of the postes I got suspicious that most of the users have their webpages public, we are in localhost, so when I read your post it was exactlly what is was happening me.

Without you I would probabbly spent another 5 hours and had quit, bacause to get help you need to publish the site and that is in my devolpment fase difficult.

I have no idea how you got into that solution, but it looks that you know a little of PHP.

Another hint for "other victims":

After switching phpshort*** to On IN THE RIGHT PLACE in PHP.ini, do not forget to STOP the XAMPP Control Panel and START it again to reload the configuration.

Thanks a lot! :D

the proper way of fixing short php tag problem would be this
error-gallery-not-defined-853.html#p3577
it is our mistake..using <? instead of <?php in one of the files..
you should not touch php.ini file at all

1. Check settings to exclude fcg-YOU conflict
2. Try to turn off all your plugins at once to exclude fcg-other plugin conflict
3. Try default theme to exclude fcg-theme conflict
4. Post in this forum to involve me in your troubleshooting. URL is required

Well, I have tried just about everything and still showing empty white box. I have tried fixing short php tag with optional js.php code, tried it on multiple sites, completely deleted all plug-ins, etc.

My test site: http://test.9001sites.com

Any direction would be appreciated.

your theme has mootools javascript framework, and fcg uses it too, but different version..it is causing the conflict....I do not have solution...

Thank you for the tip about setting the phpshort_open_tag value to "on" in the php.ini file. That solved my problem with an empty white box.
