wp 3.2.1 and fcg

hiya,
have several sites running fcg.v3.2.0.
unfortunately, i have sites that will not display the image gallery.
( am trying to display 3-5 images only, with no text in the gallery, from the post id's, not categories)

have spent 14hrs trying to get some sites working. some work. some dont.
i need someone to have a look for me please.

pretty sure it is not fcg-YOU problem.
i.e.
1. i have assigned absolute urls from known good fcg working site into (currently not working site) with articleimg custom field. i have tested these by checking in browser cut and paste the path displays an image.
2. i have 2+ articleimg custom field posts. mot have 3,4
3. i have disabled all plugins. no go. reenabled.
i have checked the sites that are working (with all my plugins enabled) against the sites
that are not working, and cannot find anything different.
4. i am not using categories,rather post ids to select.
the post ids have numbers like 86,114,70
5. i have read all posts on forum to try and look for ideas- cant find anything I havnt tried.
6. i have checked the fcg code is showing in index.php. see below.

7. i thought i might have been a long path problem to my images. pretty sure i can rule that out.
( I can copy and paste url into browser and it shows the correct image and i have put in the blogs not working the absolute path to the images from a different site that are working.)
8. i dont think it is plugin conflict.
i have disabled all plugins, no go. upgraded plugins, no go.
9. i am not sure if the very first post MUST have articleimg tag.? or what happens if did have
lots of posts.
10. i have NOT checked widget area but dont believe i have anything strange or different
between good and not displaying sites.
11. i have not checked my header.jpg but assume it does not interfere with fcg.
12. theme is wordpress review theme v1.4 for all sites. ie some work, some dont.

this site works:

it was created in wp 3.1 or thereabouts. been upgraded to 3.2.1. still works.
this site has had a lot of plugins installed, deinstalled. is an older development site,
but the fcg works! (I would have expected it not to and the others to work...)
this site works:
2. created in (i think) 3.2.1 http://www.jumpstartreviews.com
it is a fresh site. it works.

these sites dont work:
(they were created with wp 3.2.1 fantastico I think,) and are fresh.
